About this position
PhD opportunity at the University of Warwick, Department of Physics, on fundamental defect properties in diamond for quantum technologies.
The project explores how point defects in diamond, including nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centres and silicon-vacancy (SiV) centres, can be identified, characterised, and controlled for use in quantum sensing, quantum communication, and related quantum technology applications. Research topics include cryogenic optical and magnetic resonance techniques, electronic structure and defect chemistry, atomic configuration analysis, and novel defect generation and diffusion control.
The work will be carried out in Warwick’s Physics Department and benefits from collaboration with international academic and industrial partners. The project is supervised/advertised by Dr. Ben Green ([email protected]).
Eligibility: applicants should have or expect at least an upper second class BSc honours, MSci or MPhys, or equivalent in Physics or a related subject. Non-native English speakers need IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Funding: fully funded for 42 months, with a full UK-standard annual tax-free stipend of £21,830 rising with inflation, plus conference travel and consumables. The listing notes that some UKRI awards are available to international students and points to Warwick PGR Scholarship Competitions for additional international funding support.
Applications are accepted all year round. Interested candidates should consult the Department of Physics postgraduate webpage for application instructions and contact Dr. Ben Green for further details.
