About this position
PhD opportunity at Wageningen University & Research in the Sensory Science and Eating Behaviour chair group, Division of Human Nutrition and Health.
This PhD project examines the impact of weight loss medication, especially GLP-1 receptor agonists such as Ozempic and Wegovy, on sensory perception, smell and taste sensitivity, food preferences, appetite, and eating behaviour. The project is part of an NWO-Vici study and includes a prospective longitudinal cohort of individuals starting GLP-1 agonist therapy. A collaborating postdoc will conduct advanced MRI brain imaging in a subset of participants to study the olfactory bulb and connected brain regions.
The successful candidate will set up and coordinate the cohort study, perform sensory and behavioural measurements, analyse longitudinal data, collaborate with academic and clinical partners, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, supervise BSc and MSc students, and contribute to teaching. The work is embedded in an interdisciplinary and internationally recognized research environment at WUR.
Eligibility highlights: a Master's degree in Nutrition and Health, Health Science, Biomedical Science, or a related field; strong interest in sensory science and eating behaviour; ability to coordinate complex human studies; strong organization, project management, and data analysis skills; excellent Dutch (minimum CEFR C1) and English (C1) communication skills. Fluency in Dutch is essential because the study involves Dutch participants.
Funding: fully funded PhD position with a tailored course program. Salary is listed as €3,204/month in year 1 rising to €4,051/month in year 4 (full-time 38 hours/week), with a temporary 18-month contract that may be extended for the project duration if performance is good.
Location: Wageningen, Netherlands.
Deadline: apply by 31 August 2026. First interviews are scheduled for the week of 21 September 2026.
How to apply: use the apply button on the WUR vacancy page and submit a CV (max 2 pages) plus a motivation letter in Dutch (max 1 page). Also complete the mandatory online form linked in the vacancy.
