About this position
KU Leuven is advertising a 100% PhD position in International and European Law within the ERC Advanced Grant project CONJURERS. The project focuses on corporate law and contract law questions, especially how corporations use private freedom of contract and corporate structures (including SPVs) to evade liability for toxic assets.
The PhD is part of a team of six doctoral researchers, one postdoc, and Prof. Dr. Geert Van Calster. The work is situated in the broader areas of international business law, private international law, international trade and investment law, environmental policy, and human rights litigation. The successful candidate will complete and publicly defend a PhD in Law as a monograph and contribute to journal articles, book chapters, blogposts, podcasts, outreach, and academic networking.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold an LL.B. and an LL.M.; candidates with only an LL.M. are not eligible. Candidates with only an LL.B. may be considered if they have documented research experience and/or relevant full-time legal practice experience. Strong written and spoken English is required; other languages, including Dutch, are an asset.
Funding and duration: the appointment is full-time for one year and renewable three times, in principle for up to four years. The position is embedded in a highly reputable ERC Advanced Grant project.
