About this position
PhD opportunity at Aston University in KMT2D, transcription, DNA repair, genome stability, and cancer epigenetics.
This 3-year, full-time PhD project is based in Birmingham, United Kingdom and investigates how KMT2D protects cells from malignant transformation. The research will use KMT2D-null human cancer cell lines and ΔSET mutants to distinguish catalytic from non-catalytic functions of KMT2D in transcriptional regulation, chromatin architecture, replication-stress responses, DNA repair pathway choice, and genome integrity.
The project includes training in RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, CRISPR, qPCR, chromatin and protein assays, immunofluorescence microscopy, DNA damage/repair assays, genome instability assays, and integrative computational analysis of multi-omic datasets. The work is co-supervised by Dr Theo Kantidakis and Dr Boris Kysela at Aston University.
Funding: Partially funded. Home tuition fees are covered, but overseas applicants must pay the difference between Home and Overseas fees (currently £17,712 for 2026/7) and confirm this in the funding section of the application.
Eligibility: Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, a First or Upper Second Class undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, or a Merit or above in a relevant master's degree plus an undergraduate degree. Equivalent overseas qualifications may be considered.
How to apply: Submit the PhD application form via Aston University. Choose Health and Life Sciences for University College, then select Research Health Sciences (including Optometry, Pharmacy, and Psychology Research Areas) and your preferred entry date. For enquiries, contact [email protected] or [email protected].
Start date: October 2026.
