About this position

PhD opening at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in mechanobiology, microfluidics, and advanced in vitro modeling of cancer intravasation. The project is part of the ERC-AdG research project “Intrap” and focuses on understanding how cancer cells move into blood vessels, a key step in metastasis.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team working on:

- advanced 3D cell cultures in microfluidic chips
- biophysical engineering of cell and matrix properties through biochemical and RNA treatments
- live-cell microscopy and analysis, including live-cell reporters
- mechanotransduction and mechanobiological analysis

This position is especially relevant for applicants interested in biomedical engineering, biology, mechanical engineering, medical science, materials science, and related areas of cancer research and microphysiological systems.

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree or equivalent in biophysics, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, or mechanical engineering; strong research motivation; collaborative mindset; fluent English at C1 level; and interest in teaching/student coaching (10–15% of time). Experience with cell biology, live-cell imaging, microfluidics, and biophysical engineering of cells/ECM is advantageous.

Funding and conditions: full-time employment for 4 years, salary scale P (€3,059–€3,881 per month), plus 8.3% year-end bonus and 8% vacation pay. Relocation support is available, including immigration assistance and potential access to the Dutch 30% tax facility for international candidates.

How to apply: submit the application online via the official TU/e portal only. Prepare a cover letter, CV with publications, and contact information for three references. Email or postal applications will not be processed.
