About this position
Wageningen University & Research (WUR) in the Netherlands is advertising a fully funded PhD on Modeling the Cool City: Microclimate Solutions for Urban Heat Resilience. Applicants should have or be completing a Master’s degree in Urban (Bio)Climate, (Hydro)Meteorology, Climate Science, Environmental Physics, Physical Geography, Urban Design, or a related field. Helpful skills and interests include atmospheric modelling (e.g. RANS, LES), programming, GIS, biometeorology, human thermal comfort, analytical thinking, academic writing, and willingness to collaborate internationally and travel to the pilot cities.
The PhD runs for 4 years, starts on 1 October 2026, and offers a salary from €3,059/month in year 1 to €3,881/month in year 4, plus an 8.3% year-end bonus and pension benefits.
