About this position
Wageningen University & Research is recruiting a PhD position in modelling non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture within the Earth Systems and Global Change Group. The project is part of the HORIOZON project MARVELA and focuses on improving monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems for agricultural climate mitigation.
The research will address emissions of nitrous oxide and methane from key agricultural practices such as animal husbandry, manure management, livestock feeding and grazing, soil tillage, fertilizer application, and liming. The PhD researcher will expand an existing modelling framework, perform a SWOT analysis of current models, build an integrated regional and farm-system MRV meta-model, and evaluate mitigation measures across pilot regions in Europe.
This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates interested in environmental science, agriculture, earth systems, statistics, and quantitative modelling. The post is supervised by Gerard Ros, Mengru Wang, Hannah van Zanten, and Erik Meers, with the work based at Wageningen University and Research in the Netherlands.
