This PhD position sits in the Radiotherapy & OncoImmunology (ROI) lab within the Department of Radiation Oncology. The project focuses on how the tumor microenvironment (TME) influences response to radiotherapy, with particular attention to stromal composition, hypoxia, cellular senescence, cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), immune cells, and treatment resistance.

The research combines patient-derived models and in vivo tumor models with complementary preclinical approaches such as hypoxia modulation, targeting senescent cells or CAFs, image-guided radiotherapy, and immune checkpoint inhibition. You will assess treatment response and mechanisms using readouts including DNA damage and repair, tumor growth, and characterization of the TME.

Applicants should have an MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Cancer Biology, or a related field (or equivalent). A strong interest in preclinical cancer research is essential. Experience in molecular and cellular biology, tumor biology, radiobiology, or immunology is an advantage; experience with preclinical animal models is welcome. Candidates with an Article 9 certificate for experimental animals are especially encouraged.
