About this position

PhD candidate opportunity in Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Immunology, and related biomedical fields at the Leibniz Institute for Analytical Sciences (ISAS) in Germany.

The project is part of the DFG-funded CRC 1752 “DYNAMO: Immediate Tumor Dynamics in Melanoma Therapy” and focuses on understanding the role of neutrophils in the early development of therapy resistance in human melanoma. The work is carried out in collaboration with University Hospital Essen and the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Research tasks include experimental setup and execution of neutrophil functional profiling, migration/phagocytosis/ROS assays, optimization of assays for primary human samples, few-cell proteomics, multicolor flow cytometry, live-cell imaging, advanced microscopy, stimulation/inhibition experiments, and data analysis/visualization in collaboration with computational partners.

Eligibility highlights: a completed diploma or master's degree in molecular biology, cancer biology, immunology, cell biology, bioinformatics, translational medicine, or a closely related discipline; experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques; interest in melanoma biology, tumor immunology, immune checkpoint therapy, translational cancer research, and tumor-immune interactions; English fluency. Experience with cell culture, flow cytometry, microscopy, proteomics, or bioinformatics is desirable.

Funding: the position is a 65% part-time PhD role, funded by the DFG, paid according to German TV-L EG 13, and offered from 1 October 2026 until 30 June 2030.
