About this position
Karolinska Institutet is advertising a PhD position in Oral Biology and Medicine within the Oral Biology and Medicine Research Group at the Department of Dental Medicine. The project is based at Campus Flemingsberg in Stockholm, Sweden, and is affiliated with Ana Futura, a state-of-the-art research facility.
The doctoral project focuses on the effects of nicotine pouches (“white snus”) and other Swedish smokeless tobacco products on the oral mucosa at the clinical, histological, and molecular levels. The work is interdisciplinary and combines oral biology, oral medicine, oral pathology, molecular biology, genomics, analytical chemistry, histopathology, toxicology, and data analysis. The student will gain training in histopathology, genetic analyses, toxicology, and data analysis, and will contribute to experiments, interpretation of complex data, and scientific publications.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a degree in Dentistry or an equivalent qualification. General doctoral eligibility requires a master’s degree, at least 240 credits with 60 advanced-level credits, or equivalent knowledge. English proficiency equivalent to English B/English 6 is required. Experience in histology, biomedicine, and molecular biology is highly desirable, with prior knowledge of histology, immunology, and/or genetics preferred. Strong independence, teamwork, motivation, creativity, and excellent English communication skills are emphasized; Swedish is an advantage for patient interactions.
