About this position

PhD candidate in pancreatic cancer at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC)

This PhD project focuses on translational research in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), with an emphasis on the relationship between tumor characteristics, body composition, treatment response, and survival. The work combines clinical data, patient material, transcriptomics, imaging mass cytometry, CT-based analyses, statistical analysis, bioinformatics, and AI-driven predictive modeling.

You will be based in the Research Laboratory of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at LUMC and collaborate with researchers from Amsterdam UMC, Maastricht UMC+, and the international ONCOverse consortium. The project is embedded in a strong Dutch biobank infrastructure for pancreatic cancer and uses cohorts of more than 3,000 PDAC patients, plus prospectively collected biomaterials.

Applicants should have a completed or nearly completed master's degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Biology, Medicine, Life Sciences, or a related field. Interest in oncology, metabolism, and bioinformatics is important, as is the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and independently. Excellent English is required; Dutch is a plus. Willingness to collaborate with and travel to partner institutes is also expected.

This is a paid PhD position with a gross monthly salary of €3,217 to €4,077 (scale PRO, CAO UMC), plus standard LUMC benefits. The appointment is temporary for three years, with a planned start date of 2027-01-01. The vacancy is open to internal and external candidates.
