About this position

PhD opening in polymer chemistry, light-driven catalysis, and energy conversion/storage at the Helmholtz Institute for Polymers in Energy Applications Jena (HIPOLE Jena), in collaboration with the Collaborative Research Center TRR 234 “CataLight”. The position is assigned to the group of Prof. Dr. Felix H. Schacher at Friedrich Schiller University Jena / HIPOLE Jena.

The project focuses on the synthesis and modification of polymers, copolymers, and hybrid materials; immobilization of catalysts and light-harvesting units; and testing materials for light-driven water splitting. The work sits at the intersection of innovative polymer materials, catalysis, soft matter, and sustainable energy technologies, with strong links to an internationally active, interdisciplinary consortium.

Applicants should hold a master’s degree in chemistry or a comparable field. Strong experience in organic chemistry and/or polymer chemistry or catalysis is required, along with experience in analytical methods for polymer characterization. Very good written and spoken English is expected. The post also values initiative, problem-solving ability, teamwork, independence, and communication skills in an international research environment.

The position is fixed term for 36 months and is paid according to TVöD-Bund. It is part of the integrated graduate program of CataLight. The announcement highlights a diversity-sensitive working environment, flexible working models, career support, and long-term development opportunities.

Apply via the online application management system only. The deadline is 2026-08-15. Applications sent by email or mail will not be considered.
