PhD in Population Medicine: Climatic Hazards and Companion Animal Health University of Guelph in Canada

PhD opportunity in Population Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph.

This opening is for a 3-year PhD in the Department of Population Medicine within the Applied Epidemiological Research Laboratory (AEROH), supervised by Dr. Katie Clow. The project focuses on companion animal health impacts associated with climatic hazards, with an emphasis on dogs, cats, and horses and the effects of climate change-related events such as heat extremes, droughts, floods, wildfires, tropical cyclones, and related environmental stressors.

The research topic will be co-created by the advisor and the successful candidate, allowing the project to align with the student’s background and professional goals. The student will build expertise in climate change science, companion animal population health, veterinary epidemiology, and advanced epidemiological methods.

Eligibility: Applicants should have a strong background in animal health and epidemiology. Required qualifications include an MSc in Epidemiology or a related field and/or a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Applicants must also meet the academic standards for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Guelph. Domestic, permanent resident, and international applicants are eligible.

Funding: The position offers a $25,000 per annum stipend for three years, plus any scholarships secured by the candidate.
