About this position
Eindhoven University of Technology is offering a fully funded PhD position in post-quantum cryptography within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The project focuses on developing practical cryptography for the post-quantum era, with a strong emphasis on provable security and implementation security from the outset.
The doctoral research will combine cryptographic design with formal security analysis, aiming to bridge the gap between theoretical guarantees and secure real-world implementations. The successful candidate will work on the next generation of post-quantum cryptographic schemes and will collaborate closely with researchers working on side-channel attacks and secure implementations.
The position is supervised by K. Hövelmanns and co-supervised by A. Hülsing. The research environment is multidisciplinary and international, with weekly supervision meetings, guidance on writing and presentation, and support for career development. TU/e highlights flexible working hours, strong research collaboration, and access to a broad academic and industrial network in Brainport Eindhoven.
Applicants should hold a master's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related subject, and should have a solid background in cryptography, algorithms, discrete mathematics, or an adjacent field. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are important. Research experience is welcome but not mandatory, and programming skills in C/C++, Rust, or Python are considered an advantage.
The post is a full-time temporary employment contract for four years, with an intermediate assessment after nine months. The role includes teaching duties of at least 10% of the four-year appointment, and up to 15% per year. Funding includes a gross monthly salary under Dutch university scale P, plus a year-end bonus and vacation pay, along with standard benefits and support for international candidates.
Applications must be submitted online by 2026-08-12. Required documents are a cover letter, transcript of records, and a CV including publications and contact details for three references. Applications sent by email or post will not be processed.
