About this position

ETH Zurich is advertising a PhD/doctoral position in Robust Railway Intervention Planning under Uncertainty within the Chair of Infrastructure Management led by Prof. Bryan T. Adey.

The project is part of the ETH Mobility Initiative and focuses on developing uncertainty-aware methods and optimization tools for robust railway intervention planning and resource forecasting. The work includes characterising uncertainty in intervention planning, extending MILP models with stochastic and robust optimization, building a GIS-based decision-support platform, and validating the approach with SBB historical and planned data.

Preferred academic background includes a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science. Applicants should have strong skills in optimization, especially MILP and stochastic/robust methods. Python is preferred, and experience with railway systems, asset management, or GIS is an advantage. English is required; German is a plus.

This is a fixed-term doctoral role in Zurich, Switzerland. The post directs applicants to the ETH Zurich jobs portal for application.
