About this position

The doctoral project is titled Self-Harm and New Media and is embedded in PROTECT-SH, a Horizon Europe-funded international consortium with partners in seven countries. The research focuses on how social media use may promote or protect against self-harming and suicidal behavior in adolescents and young adults. The study combines clinical interviews, questionnaires, Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA), and passive smartphone data, and will also develop and evaluate a digital intervention in two large randomized controlled trials (prevention and clinical intervention).

The PhD candidate will recruit and follow adolescents and young adults from clinical and non-clinical settings, conduct structured diagnostic interviews and questionnaire assessments, manage smartphone-based data collection, support implementation and quality assurance of the digital intervention at the Bern site, and contribute to data management, analysis, ethics applications, study documents, coordination with international partners, publications, and conference presentations.

Eligibility highlights include a completed Master's degree in Psychology, excellent German and English, strong empirical methods and statistics skills, and a careful, independent working style. Prior experience in clinical or therapeutic work with children and adolescents is desirable. The position is 100%, temporary, and offered for 3 years with an optional extension to 4 years.
