About this position

La Trobe University is advertising a PhD opportunity linked to hip dysplasia, rehabilitation, clinical trials, and health economics. The project, PRO-26139 – Measuring Hip Dysplasia Burden: The HOpE RCT, sits within a prospectively registered, multisite superiority randomized controlled trial comparing periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) surgery + 12 months of co-designed rehabilitation versus 12 months of co-designed rehabilitation.

The trial will recruit 126 participants aged 10–40 years with hip dysplasia who are eligible for PAO surgery across four Australian states. The PhD candidate will evaluate the burden of hip dysplasia and assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the interventions. The role also includes training in clinical trial project management and involvement in the day-to-day running of a large multicentre clinical trial.

The team is particularly interested in applicants with strong quantitative and/or health economics skills. Clinical trial experience is an advantage. The opportunity is open to domestic and international applicants.

Supervision: Primary supervisor Professor Joanne Kemp; co-supervisors Dr Melanie Lloyd (Monash University) and Dr Sally Coburn (La Trobe University).

How to apply: Read more about Project PRO-26139 using the provided link, then contact Professor Joanne Kemp by email if you are interested and eligible. Mention your background in quantitative methods, health economics, musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation, or clinical trials.
