PhD Opportunity in Just Socio-Ecological Transition, Circular Economy, Bioeconomy and Innovation at University of Helsinki (RESDOC) University of Helsinki in Finland

University of Helsinki Doctoral School (UHDS) has opened applications for the RESDOC doctoral training project (Resilient and Just Systems Doctoral Project), an interdisciplinary PhD programme co-funded by the European Commission MSCA-COFUND programme and the University of Helsinki.

The call offers 30 salaried doctoral researcher positions for 4 years. The opportunity is linked to Theme 4: Just Socio-Ecological Transition, with supervision available from Anne Toppinen and Angelina Korsunova-Tsaruk. The thematic focus highlighted in the post includes circular economy, bioeconomy, innovation, and wellbeing, making it suitable for applicants interested in sustainability transitions, forest policy, and interdisciplinary socio-ecological research.

Eligibility is strict and follows MSCA COFUND rules. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent, must not already have a PhD, must be early-stage researchers with less than 4 years of research experience, and must comply with the MSCA mobility rule (not more than 12 months in Finland in the 36 months before the deadline). Applicants must also meet University of Helsinki English language requirements, not be permanently employed by the university, and be willing to reside in Finland for the full 4-year period.

The application window is open from 1 June 2026 to 31 August 2026, with the deadline at 23:59 Finnish time (EET). Applications are submitted only through the University of Helsinki online recruitment system. Mandatory attachments include a Europass CV, motivation letter and doctoral study plan, degree certificate and transcript, proof of English language skills, and a research proposal with ethics self-assessment and intersectoral mobility plan. Applicants are asked to suggest 2 to 3 supervisors.
