🚨 PhD opportunity in Microbiology at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) 🚨
The Translational Microbiology team is seeking enthusiastic, motivated, and collaborative PhD candidates to work at the intersection of laboratory science, genomics, and global health. The research focuses on major bacterial pathogens, especially Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus), Group A Streptococcus, and Group B Streptococcus.
Available PhD projects span three broad themes: (1) improving vaccine strategies in low- and middle-income settings by studying pneumococcal carriage, disease, antimicrobial resistance, and regional microbiology across the Asia-Pacific; (2) better diagnostics and disease surveillance through tools for severe pneumonia, serotype identification, and genomics-based population dynamics; and (3) understanding bacterial biology using laboratory methods, genomics, and/or animal models to study pathogenesis and bacterial-viral co-infections.
Applicants should have a background in Microbiology or a closely related discipline. They must be eligible for PhD enrolment at the University of Melbourne and be competitive for a PhD scholarship.
