About this position

The iCARE Lab at Kennesaw State University, led by Assistant Professor Muhammad Imran, is seeking PhD students for Fall 2026 admissions in the School of Data Science and Analytics. The lab focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data science, and healthcare, with particular emphasis on medical imaging, deep learning, disease detection, segmentation, image registration, AI-assisted cancer screening, and generative models for medical imaging.

Students in the iCARE Lab will have the opportunity to work on real-world healthcare challenges using advanced AI techniques, participate in high-impact publications, and engage in international research competitions. The lab environment provides hands-on experience with leading machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, MONAI, and SimpleITK.

The PhD in Data Science and Analytics at Kennesaw State University is a full-time, in-residence program designed to train the next generation of data science leaders, researchers, and educators. The curriculum covers computer science, statistics, mathematics, and business, with concentrations available in Computer Science, Statistics, and mHealth. Students will develop expertise in programming, data mining, statistical modeling, and the mathematical foundations of data science, as well as communication skills for presenting research findings.

Applicants should have a strong background in data science, computer science, electrical engineering, or related fields, with proficiency in Python and familiarity with machine learning and deep learning. Admission requirements include a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75, GRE scores (minimum quantitative 160, preferred analytical writing 3.5), completion of math courses through calculus II, and proficiency in at least one analytical programming language. Application materials include a statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation, and a resume or CV.

Qualified students receive a tuition waiver and a research stipend to cover living costs, making this a fully funded PhD opportunity. The program is based at the Marietta Campus of Kennesaw State University in the United States. The application deadline for Fall 2026 is February 1, 2026.
