About this position

PhD Position 100% – AI Literacy & Regulatory Learning at the Institute of Law and Economics, University of St. Gallen (Switzerland).

This doctoral opening is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network REGULAIRE and focuses on how AI literacy frameworks shape individual and organisational absorptive capacity in public bodies and support regulatory learning. The project uses case studies and pre/post assessment designs to examine how literacy interventions affect evidence generation, procurement choices, escalation paths, and the circulation of lessons across units and agencies.

The successful candidate will build an inventory and typology of AI-literacy frameworks, validate interventions, report on literacy effects, and develop guidance for integrating literacy with procurement and review cycles. The role also includes refining research questions with the supervision team, preparing ethics and data-management materials, contributing to open science, completing a doctoral thesis, and publishing related papers.

Supervision: Prof. Aurelia Tamò-Larrieux (primary supervisor) and Ass. Prof. Sandra Cortesi (co-supervisor), plus a sectoral mentor at the secondment host.

Eligibility highlights: a master's degree or equivalent qualifying for doctoral studies at the University of St. Gallen in public administration, political science, learning sciences, information systems, communication, law, or a related field; interest or experience in intervention research and case studies; strong English; willingness to participate in international mobility and network-wide activities; and compliance with MSCA mobility and doctoral admission rules.

Funding and conditions: 100% doctoral position, limited from 2027-01-01 to 2029-12-31, with network training, three residential summer schools, monthly paper development seminars, practitioner engagement, and a planned three-month intersectoral secondment. No stipend amount is stated.
