About this position

Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) / CeSCuP is offering a PhD position in psychology and political science focused on authoritarian attitudes, perceived threat, polarisation, and support for far-right politics.

The project is interdisciplinary and combines perspectives from social psychology and political science. It investigates why some citizens support far-right political parties and candidates, how threat perceptions shape political attitudes and behavior, and how these relationships vary across social and political contexts. A key empirical focus is Belgium, especially Brussels, with opportunities to contribute to survey research around the Belgian electoral cycles of 2029 and 2030.

The successful candidate will join the CeSCuP research group at the Faculty of Psychological Sciences and Education / Speech Therapy at ULB. The position is a 3.5-year paid, full-time PhD starting on 1 January 2027. The post includes collaborative data collection and interdisciplinary research activities across participating teams.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in social psychology or another relevant field; strong quantitative and statistical skills; interest in intergroup relations, prejudice, threat, and political attitudes; excellent English writing and presentation skills; teamwork and interpersonal skills. French is a plus.

Funding: full-time scholarship comparable to a competitive Belgian salary, with health care and social security benefits.
