About this position
NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research is advertising a PhD position in bio-optics within the North Sea POWER (Progress in Offshore Wind Ecological Research) consortium. The project focuses on how offshore wind farms are changing the underwater light environment of the North Sea and how these changes affect marine ecosystems.
The successful candidate will work on marine optics, ocean colour remote sensing, radiative transfer, and ecosystem modelling. The research includes developing inversion algorithms to derive underwater light climate and optical water quality parameters from satellite data, measuring spectra, light scattering, absorption, attenuation, and optically active substances during ship cruises and in the laboratory, and comparing model simulations with observations to assess ecological impacts of offshore wind farms.
