PhD Position in Cellular/Molecular Neuroscience and Synapse Stability University of Gothenburg in Sweden

We are recruiting a PhD student at the Institute of Biomedicine, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The project is in cellular/molecular neuroscience and focuses on the structural stability of synapses, including synapse assembly, stabilization, and disassembly. The research is led by the Sterky lab and investigates synaptic cell adhesion molecules and the molecular mechanisms that regulate synaptic balance in health and disease.

The work will use human iPS-derived neurons and genetically modified mice, with methods including advanced cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, protein and transcript analysis, confocal microscopy, and assessment of synaptic function. Experience with electrophysiology/patch-clamp is considered an advantage.

Eligibility highlights include strong motivation for experimental biology, analytical reasoning, good documentation skills, proficiency in spoken and written English, and willingness to work in a team. The role involves laboratory animal work.
