About this position

The School of Chemical Engineering at Yeungnam University, Republic of Korea, is seeking applications for a fully funded PhD position under the supervision of Prof. Seong-Cheol Kim. The research focuses on computational chemistry, specifically DFT calculation, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics, with applications in advanced material and nanomaterial synthesis, characterization, and material science. This interdisciplinary project is ideal for candidates interested in combining computational and experimental approaches to address challenges in material science and chemical engineering.

Applicants should hold an M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science. Essential skills include hands-on experience with DFT calculations, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics, as well as basic knowledge or experience in material characterization. Candidates must demonstrate strong motivation for independent research and a commitment to scientific advancement. Good communication and teamwork skills, the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment, and prior research or publication experience in related areas are preferred.

The position offers a monthly stipend of approximately 1.1 million KRW, with tuition fee waiver available for candidates who meet the required language proficiency in either Korean (TOPIK Level 6) or English (TOEFL iBT 100, IELTS 7, or TOEIC 900 or above). The program is set to begin on September 1, 2026, and will last for a minimum of four years. Preference will be given to applicants currently residing in Korea.

To apply, interested candidates should email an updated CV (including academic records and relevant experience), a language proficiency certificate (Korean or English), a brief statement of purpose outlining research interests and motivation, copies of degree certificates and transcripts, and contact details of two referees to Prof. Seong-Cheol Kim at [email protected].

This opportunity is ideal for highly motivated students seeking to advance their expertise in computational chemistry, material science, and nanomaterial research at a leading institution in Korea.
