About this position
Constructor University Bremen, in collaboration with Constructor Knowledge Labs and Constructor Technology, is inviting applications for a PhD position in Computer Science focused on wearable intelligence, multimodal data fusion, and edge AI.
The project is part of the Wearable Intelligence Project and explores how wearable data streams can be transformed into structured knowledge and integrated into a knowledge-grounded digital avatar for bi-directional collaboration in education and research. Research directions include data fusion of heterogeneous temporal streams, biomedical data analytics, on-device processing and performance modeling, and the development of privacy-preserving, real-time personalization frameworks.
Doctoral researchers will work in an interdisciplinary environment spanning AI/ML, edge computing, cognitive science, human-computer interaction, and applied industrial research. Students will also have access to specialized courses in artificial intelligence, machine learning, edge computing, advanced computational methods, data science, cognitive science, and human-centered computing.
Funding: The position offers full financial coverage through a dedicated fellowship, including a monthly stipend of €1,650, a monthly research-cost allowance of €100, a health-insurance subsidy of €100 per month, and an optional €603 mini-job allowance for parallel part-time employment. The group also supports external funding applications.
Eligibility: Applicants should have an MSc or equivalent in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field, plus strong skills in AI/ML, signal processing, edge computing, wearable or multimodal data, mathematical modeling, and academic English. Experience with LLMs, multimodal fusion, privacy-preserving ML, dynamic consent, and GDPR-compliant frameworks is preferred.
Deadline: August 31, 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
How to apply: Submit a CV, transcripts, motivation letter, and two recommendation letters via the Workday application portal. Mention Polytechnicpositions.com in your application.
