About this position
The Chair of Experimental Physics of Functional Spin Systems at the Technical University of Munich is offering a PhD position for motivated candidates interested in cutting-edge research on magnetic systems at the nanoscale. The newly forming JuniorStart Fellow group investigates static and dynamic properties of magnetic skyrmions, higher-order spin textures, and three-dimensional magnetic nanostructures. The research combines advanced nanofabrication techniques—including thin-film deposition, electron-beam and photolithography, and SEM/FIB-based 3D nanostructuring—with a broad experimental toolkit. Students will fabricate their own samples in the clean room and probe their properties using magneto-transport, ferromagnetic resonance, spin-wave spectroscopy, and synchrotron-based scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) for direct, time-resolved imaging of magnetization.
Experiments are closely integrated with micromagnetic simulations, which guide sample design and interpretation of measurements. The group offers a dynamic environment for students interested in both hands-on experimental work and computational modeling. The Technical University of Munich provides access to state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant academic community.
Applicants should have a strong background in physics, materials science, or related fields. Experience with nanofabrication, magnetism, or micromagnetic simulations is advantageous. Motivation and interest in experimental research are essential. The position does not specify GPA, language test, or degree requirements.
To apply, use the online application link provided. Prepare your CV and motivation letter, and follow the instructions on the magnetism.eu job portal. For further information, contact the group directly.
