About this position

Join Linköping University as a doctoral student and contribute to the future of visual technologies through groundbreaking artificial intelligence research. This PhD position focuses on developing new generative AI models and deep learning methods for photorealistic computer graphics, 3D scene creation, editing, optimization, and real-time rendering. You will collaborate with senior researchers and other PhD students on projects at the intersection of neural rendering (including NeRF and Gaussian Splatting) and traditional computer graphics.

As a doctoral student, you will devote most of your time to research and doctoral studies, with the possibility of teaching or departmental duties up to 20% of full-time. The Department of Science and Technology (ITN) at Campus Norrköping offers a dynamic, creative, and interdisciplinary environment, with strong links to industry and world-leading research groups in computer graphics, image processing, and visualization. The Division for Media and Information Technology (MIT) is central to Sweden’s national ecosystem for visualization and digitalization, and through the Visualization Center C, you will have access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and laboratories for experimental research in data visualization and AI-driven image synthesis.

Applicants must have a Master’s degree in media technology, computer science and engineering, engineering physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or equivalent, or have completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, including at least 60 advanced credits in relevant subjects such as machine learning, computer vision, computer graphics, or image analysis. Alternatively, essentially corresponding knowledge gained in another way is acceptable. Required skills include excellent programming in Python and C++, documented experience in computer graphics and GPU development, and practical experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Excellent English proficiency, both spoken and written, is essential. The ideal candidate is analytical, initiative-taking, and possesses strong problem-solving skills, with a genuine interest in visual technology and the ability to work independently and in a team. Personal qualities and suitability are highly valued.

The position is fully funded for four years, with possible extension up to five years based on teaching and institutional duties. Salary is determined according to locally negotiated salary progression, and employment benefits are available. The initial employment is for one year, with renewal for up to two years at a time depending on progress. Security screening may be required for classified positions. Linköping University values diversity and equal opportunities, welcoming applicants from various backgrounds and perspectives.
