About this position

Open-topic PhD position in housing studies / urban sociology at the University of Stuttgart, in the new Sociology of Architecture and Housing unit.

The project is to be undertaken in close collaboration with Anthony Miro Born, who is moving to a professorship in Sociology of Architecture and Housing. The call particularly welcomes projects on the causes and consequences of housing inequality, the relationship between housing and class inequality, new forms of housing, and innovative quantitative or qualitative methodologies.

This is a funded doctoral position, not a stipend. It is a formal public-sector employment contract under E13 TV-L, 75% for three years, with pension contributions, health insurance, and an annual special payment. The approximate net salary is around €2,250/month in the first year and increases to over €2,400/month thereafter. An extension may be possible. Additional support is available for relevant housing datasets, networking, and conference travel.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should aim for a doctoral qualification in housing studies or urban sociology; a very good command of English is required; German is not required. The position also involves contributing to teaching and research activities in the department.

Deadline: 3 June at 23:59 Stuttgart time. Start date: 1 October. Interested candidates should read the linked call (English version on pages 3/4) and apply according to the instructions there.
