About this position

This PhD position at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) focuses on information-theoretic secure sensing and coordination in networks of robots and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The project addresses the vulnerabilities of such systems to jamming and eavesdropping, which threaten the security and stability of communication. Classical cryptographic protocols are increasingly insufficient, especially in light of future quantum computing threats. Information theory offers a robust solution, providing security independent of adversarial computing power.

As a PhD student, you will analyze sensing and coordination tasks from an information-theoretic perspective, aiming to implement resilient protocols in the ACES Lab at the Institute of Theoretical Information Technology. The position is part of a collaborative project with TU Dresden, dedicated to designing, analyzing, and implementing resilient communication systems. You will work closely with leading researchers, including Professor Holger Boche, and benefit from a dynamic, international research environment.

Your responsibilities include reviewing relevant research literature, conducting theoretical analyses using information theory and related fields, designing solutions that are implementable both in software and hardware, and collaborating with colleagues to realize these solutions in the ACES Lab. You will also participate in international conferences and publish your findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Applicants must have an excellent master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field. Essential qualifications include strong knowledge of Information Theory (especially Shannon Theory), coding theory, and a keen interest in mathematics. Experience with artificial intelligence is advantageous. The position is suitable for disabled persons, who will be given preference in case of equivalent suitability and performance.

Funding is provided through salary group E 13 TV-L, offering a competitive salary and benefits according to German academic standards. The research environment supports publication at top conferences and journals, and offers opportunities for collaboration with TUM and TU Dresden.
