About this position

Louisiana State University is advertising a PhD position in modeling hurricane surge, waves, and debris-induced forces on coastal buildings. The project also includes CFD simulations across many urban configurations and wave conditions, development of new parameters for realistic coastal urban layouts, quantification of debris-damming effects, and kriging-based surrogate modeling for force and flow prediction uncertainty.

Preferred preparation includes an interest in natural hazards, experimental work, and/or computational modeling. A background in CFD for coastal engineering and programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or similar tools is specifically mentioned. The post also highlights opportunities to contribute to STEM outreach, including an undergraduate course and workshops for K-12 teachers.
