About this position
PhD position at CNRS, Nice, France in the VASC-OPATH project on the pathomechanisms of vascular calcification in pediatric chronic kidney disease.
The project is coordinated by Dr Julie Bernardor (paediatric nephrologist, Assistant Professor - Hospital Practitioner) and co-supervised by Dr Stoyan Ivanov (immunologist, expert in myeloid cell biology). The work is based at the Laboratoire de physiomédecine moléculaire in Nice and connects vascular biology, immunology, stem cell biology, translational nephrology, and biological sciences.
The PhD student will contribute to three main research axes:
- single-nuclei RNA sequencing (snRNAseq) of microdissected arterioles from children with normal kidney function and stage-5 CKD;
- modelling CKD-like vascular injury in 3D vascular organoids derived from iPSCs exposed to phosphate, uremic toxins, and pro-inflammatory cytokines;
- CRISPR/Cas9 functional validation in isogenic iPSC lines to link target genes to the vascular calcification phenotype.
The project aims to identify early cellular and molecular mechanisms of vascular calcification in children with CKD and to discover new biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The post is a full-time temporary PhD contract funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR, JCJC 2026 call). No funding amount is stated.
Eligibility: PhD or equivalent in biological sciences/biology; basic French required; no prior research experience required.
Deadline: 25 September 2026, 23:59 UTC. Location: Nice, France.
How to apply: Submit your application via the CNRS vacancy page / Euraxess listing before the deadline.
