About this position
The Department of Positron Emission Tomography at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) is recruiting a PhD student to work on the development and evaluation of PET image reconstruction methods for simultaneous clinical dual-tracer PET imaging. This interdisciplinary project aims to advance medical PET imaging by enabling the separation and quantification of two radiotracers in a single scan, which could significantly improve cancer diagnosis and treatment planning. The research involves collaboration with Forschungszentrum Jülich and focuses on developing, adapting, and implementing advanced image reconstruction algorithms using in-house software and Monte Carlo simulation methods.
The successful candidate will validate these methods on clinical PET phantom data and work closely with scientific and clinical partners throughout the project. Applicants should have a strong background in medical physics, physics, computer science, or medical engineering, with proficient programming skills (C++, Python), experience in statistical computing (R, MATLAB), and knowledge of Monte Carlo simulations and medical image reconstruction.
The position offers a vibrant research community, structured PhD program, salary and benefits according to public sector agreements, and support for work-life balance. Applications should be submitted online with all required documents. The project is subject to final sponsor approval.
