About this position

Heidelberg University Hospital and EMBL Heidelberg are recruiting a PhD student for a collaborative project within CRC1550 on how CPEB4 shapes RNA regulation in heart failure.

The project focuses on molecular mechanisms of cardiac remodeling, especially alternative polyadenylation, mRNA stability, and translation. The successful candidate will use modern approaches such as CLIP-seq, Nanopore sequencing, iPSC-cardiomyocytes, and mouse models to study how RNA regulation contributes to failing hearts.

This is a fully funded doctoral position with TV-L E13, 65% support and participation in the HBIGS structured doctoral program. The position also offers integration into the CRC1550 network, collaboration with EMBL Heidelberg, international networking, and access to strong research infrastructure.

Applicants should have a Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, or a related field. The post also asks for strong English skills, an interest in RNA biology, transcriptomics, and cardiovascular research, plus a collaborative attitude and willingness to work with mice and experimental procedures.

Supervisor(s): Dr. Vivien Kmietczyk (Cardiology, Heidelberg University Hospital) and Prof. Dr. Matthias W. Hentze (EMBL Heidelberg).

Application deadline: 2026-08-15. To apply, send a cover letter, CV, transcripts, and contact details for two referees to Dr. Vivien Kmietczyk by email.
