PhD Position in Sustainable Flotation Chemistry and Mineral Processing at NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Norway

NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) is advertising a PhD position in sustainable flotation chemistry and mineral processing in Trondheim, Norway. The project sits in the Department of Geosciences and the Mineral Processing Laboratory, with collaboration across NTNU and industrial partners through the MIN30 initiative.

The research is centered on green flotation chemistry, mineral surface interactions, surface chemistry, mineral processing and recycling systems, and the role of critical raw materials in a circular economy. The successful candidate will investigate adsorption mechanisms and selectivity of environmentally friendly flotation reagents, the influence of solution chemistry and water quality, reagent stability and degradation in recirculated water systems, and links between molecular structure and flotation performance. Experimental work may include flotation testing, electrokinetic measurements, and advanced surface characterization.

This is a full-time salaried PhD candidate position at NTNU. The ad states a gross salary of NOK 550,800 per year depending on qualifications and seniority, with standard Norwegian public service pension contributions and employee benefits. It is not described as a scholarship; rather, it is an employment-based doctoral position.

Eligibility highlights: applicants need a relevant master's degree in Mineral Processing, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent; a strong academic record; and English proficiency.
