About this position

Technical University of Darmstadt is advertising a Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/d) in Thermal Catalysis within the Catalysts and Electrocatalysts Group at the Institute of Chemistry.

The position is part of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1487 “Iron, upgraded!” and project A02. The research focuses on the Mössbauer spectroscopic characterization of heterogeneous catalysts, including measurements on new and aged oxide samples, analysis of composition changes and catalyst activity, and coupled Mössbauer-Raman experiments at major facilities such as DESY (Hamburg) or ESRF (Grenoble).

Work also includes in-situ and operando Mössbauer spectroscopy to study the role of iron in oxide samples during oxidative dehydrogenation reactions (ethanol, propane), as well as preliminary experiments, application for measurement time, data analysis, and scientific publication/presentation activities.

The post is suitable for candidates with an above-average Master’s/Diploma in Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Strong English and German communication skills are required; knowledge of heterogeneous catalysis or Mössbauer spectroscopy is desirable, and Python or machine learning experience is a plus.

This is a fixed-term, 58% TV TU Darmstadt position with remuneration at pay grade 13. The university states that the role serves as academic training and offers the opportunity to prepare for a doctorate.

Deadline: 2026-08-28. Location: Darmstadt, Germany. Apply online through the university job portal.
