About this position
Ali Karimi, Assistant Professor at Oregon Health & Science University, is looking for 2–3 PhD students to join his lab through the OHSU Biomedical Engineering program in collaboration with the OHSU Casey Eye Institute.
The lab works at the intersection of biomedical engineering, biomechanics, ocular biomechanics, optical coherence tomography (OCT), AI-based image analysis, finite element modeling (FEM), and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Research themes include cell-matrix interactions, cell and tissue biomechanics, collagen fibril mechanics, experimental tissue imaging, and computational modeling of the eye.
The lab has a brand new atomic force microscope (AFM) and confocal microscope, offering direct access to tools for studying cell and tissue mechanics and imaging. Students will help shape their own research direction together with the lab, based on their interests and ongoing projects.
Students from engineering, biology, imaging, computer science, and related fields are encouraged to reach out. The post notes that applicants currently based in the U.S. may be especially suitable because of possible visa-processing delays.
To apply, email [email protected] with a CV and a few sentences about your research interests, and submit the formal application through the OHSU Biomedical Engineering PhD application portal.
