About this position
QuEST (Quantum Electrodynamics with Silicon Nanotechnology) is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network offering fully funded PhD positions in quantum science and engineering. The network brings together leading universities, research institutes, and industry partners across Europe to train the next generation of researchers in silicon quantum electrodynamics at the deep nanoscale.
The doctoral projects span a wide range of topics, including quantum photonics, nanophotonics, optomechanics, cavity QED, quantum sensing, quantum communication, quantum computing, materials growth, nanofabrication, and theory and simulations. Students will work on topics such as epitaxial growth, ion implantation, extreme nanofabrication, surface passivation, free-electron/light interaction, electron-beam control, Casimir-Polder forces, molecular gases in nanostructures, nonlinear optomechanics, and quantum optical measurements.
The programme is highly interdisciplinary and international, with secondments at academic and industrial partners, plus training in scientific and transferable skills. The network states that it will build a cohort of 14 PhD students across Europe, starting in spring 2027.
Project supervisors include Daniel Navarro Urrios (University of Barcelona), Philip Trøst Kristensen (Technical University of Denmark), and multiple PIs across Europe. A contact email listed on the project site is [email protected].
Applicants should be interested in doctoral research in quantum technologies and related experimental/theoretical areas. The post does not list detailed eligibility criteria, but the opportunity is clearly aimed at PhD candidates with strong interest in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, and related fields.
To apply, review the project descriptions on the QuEST website, identify the PhD project that matches your interests, and follow the application instructions provided there.
