About this position

REFFRACTEUR (Digital REFractory FRAmework for a Carbon-neutral and Resilient indusTry in EURope) is recruiting 15 Doctoral Candidates (PhD positions) under a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network – Industrial Doctorates framework.

The network focuses on refractory materials for Europe’s high-temperature industries, including steel, cement, glass, and non-ferrous metallurgy. Research topics span the full value chain: raw materials, materials design, digitalization, sustainability, industrial application, recycling, life cycle assessment, AI, digital twins, and predictive maintenance.

Each PhD is a 36-month full-time appointment with joint academic and industrial supervision. Doctoral candidates will work in an international and intersectoral training environment and spend at least 50% of their research time in industry, gaining strong exposure to real-world industrial challenges and collaborative research.

The project is supported by the European Commission and aims to train a new generation of researchers in materials science, chemical engineering, environmental sustainability, and digital tools for the refractory sector. The consortium spans academia, industry, and non-profit partners across Europe.

Applicants should consult the recruitment page for the full call, eligibility conditions, required documents, and the details of all 15 positions. The application deadline is 8 June 2026.

Best suited for candidates interested in materials science, chemical engineering, environmental science, computer science, mechanical engineering, and industrial engineering, especially those motivated by sustainable manufacturing, circular economy, and digital transformation in heavy industry.
