About this position
The LIGHTinPARIS Doctoral Programme is offering a fully funded PhD project titled CHISOS: CHIral Saddle-shaped Organic Semiconductors. This project is part of the 3rd call of the LIGHTinPARIS MSCA COFUND doctoral programme and is hosted within the Institute for the Sciences of Light at Université Paris-Saclay, in collaboration with the SORG team and the Institut Lavoisier de Versailles (UVSQ).
The research sits at the intersection of chemistry and physics, with a strong emphasis on organic semiconductors, chirality, photophysics, and chiroptical properties. The project will explore the synthesis and photo-physical/chiroptical behaviour of enantioenriched chromophores based on COTPh or COTTh combined with porphyrin pigments. The aim is to create new families of 3D organic semiconductors with improved solubility, stability, and circularly polarized-light activity, with potential relevance to advanced optoelectronic applications such as CP-OLEDs and 3D display technologies.
The project is supervised by David Kreher and Kaïs Dhbaibi. It also includes a required 3i dimension through interdisciplinary collaboration with CEA Paris-Saclay/IRAMIS/SPEC/GMT, and international short stays at the OPERA Lab, Kyushu University (Japan). Fellows benefit from a 36-month French doctoral employment contract, a minimum gross monthly salary of 2400 EUR, a monthly travel and mobility allowance of 200 EUR, and covered doctoral enrolment fees.
Eligibility is aimed at candidates holding or completing a Master’s degree (or equivalent) by the deadline and who do not already hold a PhD. The programme requires a good B2 level of English, while French is not mandatory. For this CHISOS project, the ideal background includes strong training in organic chemistry and stereochemistry, synthetic molecular design, multistep organic synthesis, and knowledge of supramolecular chemistry and molecular self-assembly; experience with spectroscopy, chiroptical methods, materials chemistry, optoelectronic applications, and computational studies is advantageous. Applicants must also satisfy the MSCA mobility rule and obtain the necessary security clearance.
