About this position
The University of Oslo’s Department of Informatics is advertising a PhD Research Fellow position in Knowledge-Grounded LLM Agents for Defensive Cyber Operations within the Digital Security Research Group.
This project sits at the intersection of cybersecurity, large language models, agentic AI, and neuro-symbolic methods. The research will examine how heterogeneous cybersecurity intelligence and evidence sources such as telemetry and observations can be turned into structured knowledge, represented using semantic knowledge graphs, and combined with symbolic reasoning and modern language models to support security analysis, situational awareness, decision-making, and response.
A key part of the project is the development of trustworthy, reliable, interpretable, and secure AI systems for security-critical environments. The work will also study grounding, reasoning, validation, and control of agent behaviour, making the topic especially relevant for students interested in secure and responsible AI for defence-related applications.
The PhD will be carried out in close collaboration with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), including co-supervision, and the research is intended to connect directly to cybersecurity and cyber-defence challenges. This collaboration may provide access to real-world problem settings and a strong application-oriented research context.
Applicants should have a master degree or equivalent in computer science. The position is a full-time temporary PhD role at the University of Oslo in Oslo, Norway.
The application deadline is 30 November 2026 at 23:00 (Europe/Oslo). Interested candidates should apply via the Jobbnorge application page provided in the announcement and follow the employer’s instructions carefully.
