PhD Researcher in Geophysical Sciences, Geoinformation, or Physical Oceanography ARDITI - Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation in Portugal

ARDITI - Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation is recruiting a PhD researcher for the ATLAS Madeira project (Atlantic, Technology, Leadership, Environment, Sustainability). This is an international selection procedure for one full-time, temporary research position based in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.

The post is focused on Geophysical Sciences and Geoinformation, Physical Oceanography, or closely related fields, with a strong emphasis on ocean monitoring and the flux of carbon dioxide (CO2) at the ocean-atmosphere interface. The selected researcher will join the IDL Hub - Instituto Dom Luiz - Madeira and contribute to scientific and technological activities connected to meteo-oceanographic monitoring in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

The role involves acquisition, processing, and analysis of in-situ data, as well as the implementation of innovative technological solutions for monitoring programmes. It is embedded in a wider Earth and Environmental Sciences research environment and linked to regional smart specialisation priorities for Madeira.

The contract is an employment contract of uncertain duration, lasting as long as the project and funding needs persist, with a maximum limit of 6 years. The announced gross monthly remuneration is €2,408.11. Funding is provided through the Madeira Regional Programme 2021-2027 (Madeira 2030); the position is explicitly not funded by an EU Research Framework Programme.

Eligibility: candidates must hold a PhD in Oceanography, Geophysical Sciences, or a related discipline. Foreign degrees require Portuguese recognition, which may be presented by the time of contract conclusion. The evaluation particularly values experience in planning and coordinating oceanographic monitoring campaigns, handling instruments for meteo-oceanographic data acquisition and analysis, scientific output relevant to the project, participation in research projects and deliverables, citizen engagement and science outreach, and fluency in both Portuguese and English.
