About this position
One PhD researcher position is available in the STRATUM project at the Science and Technology Park Foundation (FCPCT) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), Spain. The project is funded by the Horizon Europe programme under Grant Agreement 101137416 and runs within a consortium coordinated by ULPGC. STRATUM aims to develop a 3D Decision Support Tool for brain surgery guidance and diagnostics, using multimodal data processing, artificial intelligence algorithms, and energy-efficient point-of-care computing approaches.
The successful candidate will work at the Institute of Applied Microelectronics (IUMA), a research centre in ICT-related fields including electronics, computer science, mathematics, computing, and telematics. The role is closely connected to the research line on electronic systems design for data, images, and video processing, and will contribute to the development and integration of software and hardware prototypes for clinical use.
Main tasks include supervision and coordination of the project team, scientific coordination with international partners, management of multimodal databases, assistance with neurosurgical data acquisition, research and development of intraoperative multimodal acquisition systems, analysis of multimodal data with high-level processing software, support for implementation and algorithmic acceleration, integration of developments into functional prototypes, and preparation of project reports and scientific publications.
Eligibility is restricted to candidates who meet the nationality/residency rules stated in the call. Applicants must hold a PhD in Telecommunication Technologies and Computational Engineering (MECES 4) and a Master’s degree in Telecommunication Technologies. At least 24 months of research experience are required in biomedical engineering projects involving registration, segmentation, and/or classification of multimodal images. English at B2 level or above is beneficial in the evaluation.
The appointment is for an indefinite-term contract for scientific-technical activities related to the STRATUM project, with full-time dedication. The planned start date is November 2026. Gross remuneration is stated as 2,251.79 €/month plus a gross supplementary payment of 974.98 €/month. The workplace is the IUMA facilities at the Campus of Tafira in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.
Applications must be submitted through the FCPCT/ULPGC job pool website within the advertised 5 working-day application window. Supporting documents must be uploaded in the required formats and languages, and the call specifies that only the latest application will be considered if submitted more than once. The selection process includes merit assessment and, if necessary, interview stages.

Required qualifications are a PhD in Telecommunication Technologies and Computational Engineering (MECES 4) and a Master’s degree in Telecommunication Technologies. Candidates with foreign degrees must provide validation or homologation proof where applicable; exceptionally, this can be provided within the first six months of the contract, and non-approved foreign degrees must be translated into Spanish or English with the degree name matching the advertised requirement. Minimum professional experience is 24 months in research projects in biomedical engineering related to algorithms for registration, segmentation, and/or classification of multimodal images. English at CEFR B2 or higher is scored positively and is therefore desirable.
How to apply
