About this position
Curtin University is advertising two PhD HDR scholarship opportunities for the 2027 intake in Alzheimer’s disease research. The projects are led by Dr Emmanuel Adewuyi (NHMRC Investigator Fellow, Curtin University) and focus on integrating genomic epidemiology, statistical genetics, exposome research, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and precision medicine approaches to better understand dementia risk, mechanisms, and prevention.
The two available projects are: (1) Towards precision medicine in Alzheimer’s disease: integrating genetic and environmental influences on disease mechanisms; and (2) Understanding Alzheimer’s disease using systems-level exposome and genomic analysis. Both projects aim to move beyond single-factor association studies by combining genetic, environmental, behavioural, and molecular data to investigate disease development and progression.
Ideal candidates should have a strong quantitative background in areas such as epidemiology, genetics, statistical genetics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or related disciplines. Strong analytical and computational skills are preferred, along with experience working with large datasets and proficiency in R or Python; familiarity with Unix-based systems is also valued. Applicants must meet Curtin University’s PhD entry requirements. The opportunity is open to both domestic and international applicants.
Funding information indicates that successful applicants may be eligible for a fully funded PhD scholarship through Curtin’s HDR scholarship program, including tuition coverage and a living stipend. The project may also be linked to an RTP scholarship for the preferred candidate.
The Expression of Interest deadline is 31 July 2026, with applications to be submitted during the Central Scholarship round (1–31 July 2026). Interested candidates should review the project pages, then send an EOI to Dr Emmanuel Adewuyi at [email protected].
