About this position
One or more PhD stipends in Human-Machine Interaction are available at Aalborg University, Denmark, in the Department of Health Science and Technology, Faculty of Medicine. The position is part of the Neurorehabilitation Systems Group and is funded by the Horizon Europe project GROWT5 (Guided Robotic-human Orchestration with Wearables for manufacturing: Twin Transition Through Tactile Teaming).
The research is centered on human-machine interaction, human-robot interaction, wearable sensing, multimodal biosignal processing, machine learning, haptics, and control systems. The PhD researcher will help develop a wearable co-pilot system for industrial settings, including monitoring psychophysiological states, predicting fatigue and posture risks, detecting cognitive strain, and providing adaptive cognitive support and corrective feedback. The work involves shared-control strategies, electrotactile feedback technologies, and closed-loop human-robot teaming for future factories.
The successful candidate will be enrolled in the PhD programme in Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience. Applicants should have a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, robotics engineering, or a related field. Programming experience in Python, C++, or C# is an advantage, and applicants should be willing to design and run experiments with able-bodied participants. Strong motivation, interpersonal skills, collaborative competence, and fluent English are required.
The appointment is for three years and starts on October 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The post includes PhD training requirements such as 30 ECTS of courses, teaching or knowledge dissemination, and an external research stay outside Aalborg University, preferably 3-6 months at a foreign research institution. Salary and employment terms follow Danish university regulations and the AC collective agreement.
