About this position
Aalborg University is advertising one or more fully funded PhD stipends in criminology and cybercrime at the Department of Society and Politics, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, in Aalborg, Denmark.
The project sits within a strategic effort to strengthen criminological research in Denmark and focuses on cybercrime (cyber-enabled or cyber-dependent). Suggested themes include victimization and offending, hybridization of crime, and illicit online markets, but related topics are also welcome. The position is designed for an independent research project using appropriate qualitative and/or quantitative methods, with strong potential for internationally recognised publications and future research funding.
The PhD student will develop and complete a thesis under supervision, participate in the department’s research environment, complete a PhD training programme, and teach in one or more department programmes. Senior researchers will support access to Danish data sources such as registry data, surveys, and organisations.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a Master’s degree, ideally in criminology or a related field. Experience in data collection and analysis is particularly valued. If the thesis will be written in English and the applicant is not a native English speaker or has not completed an English-language Master’s programme, English test documentation is required (IELTS 7, TOEFL iBT 100, or TOEFL paper-based 600; test no older than five years).
Funding: the post is a 3-year fully funded PhD stipend with salary and terms under Danish collective agreements. The programme also includes 30 ECTS of PhD courses, teaching/dissemination experience, and an external research stay outside Aalborg University, preferably 3–6 months.
Application: submit a motivation letter, CV, bachelor’s and master’s diplomas with grades, a project description of at least 5 pages, and any required English test documentation through Aalborg University’s recruitment system. Deadline: 2026-08-30.
