About this position

PhD opportunity in Aerosol Chemistry at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland, with the PhD degree awarded by ETH Zurich.

This position is based in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry and focuses on research in atmospheric aerosol chemistry, carbon-14 (^14C) analysis, aerosol mass spectrometry (AMS), organic aerosol source apportionment, air pollution, climate research, and environmental data analysis.

The successful candidate will perform ^14C and AMS analyses on aerosol filter samples from Eastern Europe and Asia, help develop new methanol extraction workflows, conduct source apportionment of organic aerosols and elemental carbon, and carry out offline measurements at PSI and the University of Bern. The role also includes publishing research in high-impact journals, writing the PhD thesis at ETH Zurich, and supporting other laboratory projects.

Applicants should hold a Master's degree in Atmospheric Science or a related field. Laboratory experience is advantageous. Strong Python/programming and data analysis skills are required, along with very good oral and written English. The institute also looks for a team player with a collaborative and motivated mindset.
