The Department of Chemistry for Life Sciences is recruiting for a doctoral project in organic chemistry within the Streuff group. The research focuses on innovative synthesis methods, especially early transition metal catalysis, single-electron-transfer reactions, low-valent titanium catalysis, and related reagents/catalysts. Additional possible directions include bond cleavage and defunctionalization reactions, reaction mechanism elucidation, and total synthesis.

The position is based in Uppsala at the Biomedical Centre, with an international environment and access to advanced infrastructure and interdisciplinary collaborations. English is the main working language.

What's required

Applicants must have a Master of Science degree in organic chemistry or equivalent, a basic higher education equivalent to at least 240 ECTS credits including at least 60 ECTS credits at Master’s level and an independent project equivalent to at least 15 credits, and special eligibility for doctoral studies in organic chemistry with at least 90 higher education credits relevant to the specialization, including at least 40 higher education credits in organic chemistry at advanced level. Very good English proficiency in speech and writing is required. Strong merits include hands-on experience with NMR spectroscopy, experience working under inert gas atmosphere, method development in organic chemistry, transition metal catalysis, or organic synthesis. The selection also values critical and analytical thinking, independence, good collaboration and communication skills, academic writing ability, and documented relevant research experience.
