Örebro University invites applications for a PhD position in Disaster Medicine (Katastrofsjukvård), starting in autumn 2026. This opportunity is part of DISASTER-CARE, Sweden's first national graduate school in disaster medicine, funded by Vetenskapsrådet and coordinated by Göteborgs universitet. The program brings together leading Swedish institutions in disaster healthcare, offering a strong national and international research environment with interdisciplinary collaboration across medicine, health sciences, technology, and social sciences.

The doctoral project at Örebro University focuses on pedagogical strategies to enhance healthcare professionals' preparedness for working during special events and disasters, with an emphasis on mental readiness. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods will be used, and the exact project scope will be determined in consultation with the doctoral candidate. The main supervisor is Dr. Karin Hugelius, with additional co-supervisors from Örebro University and other institutions within the graduate school.

The PhD program consists of courses and independent research culminating in a doctoral thesis. The position is a full-time doctoral employment for four years, with a starting salary of 32,300 SEK per month. Teaching duties up to 20% may be included, which would extend the study period accordingly. The program aims to provide a stimulating and meaningful research education, including tailored seminars covering academic regulations, career development, and support for doctoral students.

Eligibility requires an advanced degree, completion of at least 240 ECTS credits (with at least 60 ECTS at advanced level), or equivalent qualifications. Special eligibility includes at least 90 ECTS credits with a C-level thesis in health and care sciences or equivalent. Clinical experience in disaster medicine, teaching healthcare staff or students, or research experience is considered advantageous.
