About this position

DTU Chemical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is recruiting a highly motivated PhD student for research on the effect of amine carry-over on CO2 transport. The position is part of the Horizon Europe MSCA project MISSION-CCS, which aims to accelerate the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies worldwide.

The project focuses on CO2 quality assessment and pilot-scale CO2 capture, with an emphasis on how small impurities from amine-based capture processes are transported into compression and liquefaction systems. These impurities can create serious corrosion, safety, and lifetime-estimation risks, so the work combines chemical analysis, corrosion experiments, data interpretation, and pilot-scale experimentation up to TRL7.

You will join a team of around 25 colleagues working on CCUS, together with industrial partners in Denmark and abroad. The role includes analysis of solvents and gases, interpretation of large-scale DTU pilot data, and secondments at the University of Leeds (UK), Institut for Energiteknikk (IFE) in Norway, and Wood Group in the UK.

The ideal candidate has a background in chemical or process engineering and strong experimental and analytical skills. Experience with chemical analysis, pilot experiments, thermodynamics, data analytics, and computer science is considered an advantage. Applicants should be highly motivated, responsible, flexible, collaborative, and fluent in English.

This is a 3-year PhD appointment starting on 15 December 2026. The position is funded through Horizon Europe MSCA, and the PhD scholarship is subject to academic approval and enrolment at DTU. Applicants must also meet MSCA Doctoral Network mobility eligibility rules, including the requirement not to have lived or carried out their main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the start date.

Funding details
